This little vinyasa flow was inspired by my favorite yogi and my favorite band! The song ‘Within and Without You’ in the background (if you didn’t already know) is by George Harrison of The Beatles…you may have heard of them before 😉
I was on instagram and got to see my favorite yogi i.e. Meghan Currie she is one of the few who truly inspired me to create my own style of yoga and branch out from the norm. Be sure to check her youtube out HERE.
The lyrics of this song are extremely profound and if you are wondering about the instruments used you are hearing the sitar an Indian instrument. This song was inspired by their trip to Rishikesh, India where they learned all aboutTranscendental meditation after living in the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Amid widespread media attention, their visit was one of the band’s most productive periods. Led by George Harrison‘s commitment, the Beatles’ interest in the Maharishi changed Western attitudes about Indian spirituality and encouraged the study of Transcendental Meditation. This trip did wonders for their music as much of it after this trip was inspired by it. In fact it was in India where Ringo star wrote his first song as well.
While I was living in Rishikesh I got to sneak into the same Ashram, it is abandoned now and covered in gorgeous art from travelers around the world. Here are a few photos of when I was there…
The energy here was electric you could feel all the many souls who had been there before and even though the ashram was abandoned it felt as if you were in a room filled with people.
Anyways back to the song, Within and Without you, here are some of the lyrics by the amazing George Harrison:
“We were talking about the space between us all
And the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth, then it’s far too late, when they pass away
We were talking about the love we all could share
When we find it, to try our best to hold it there with our love
With our love, we could save the world, if they only knew
Try to realize it’s all within yourself
No one else can make you change
And to see you’re really only very small
And life flows on within you .and without you
We were talking about the love that’s gone so cold
And the people who gain the world and lose their soul
They don’t know, they can’t see, are you one of them?
When you’ve seen beyond yourself then you may find Peace of mind is waiting there
And the time will come when you see we’re all one
And life flows on within you and without you”
